RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE
Religious instruction is the focal point of St. Mary's program and is highlighted by weekly Mass. Students actively participate in praise and worship of God our Father through Jesus Christ His Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. In prayer, song, and reflection on the Sacred Scriptures our school follows the example of Christians since the first Easter Sunday. The students also benefit from formal religion class instruction, supplemented with appropriate special opportunities which include: Seasonal devotions, Sacramental celebrations, Community service, and a Graduation retreat.
ACCELERATED READER, BOOK-IT!, KUMON, SAXON MATH
Students participate in the Accelerated Reader and Book-It! programs. Both programs are designed to further encourage the student in lifelong reading habits. Besides the regular Mathematics program, students participate in the Kumon Mathematics program. This is an individualized program which moves children through their computational skills. Students in grades Pre-K through 1st also use Saxon Math as a supplemental program.
FIELD TRIPS
Field trips are educational outings to enhance areas of study and may be organized any time during the school year, with the approval of the principal. Students have visited such attractions as the Gregg County Historical Museum, the Kilgore Oil Museum, the Longview Daily News, the Longview Symphony, the Caldwell Zoo, the Caddoan Indian Mounds in Alto, Texas, Mission Tejas in Weches, Texas, a local lignite mine and power plant, Hudnall Planetarium in Tyler, NASA in Houston, and the Holocaust Museum in Dallas. In conjunction with the study of Texas History, each spring seventh graders visit historical sites in the state.
